Llanmoor welcomes Welsh Secretary of State

Welsh housebuilder Llanmoor Homes was pleased to welcome Welsh Secretary of State, Stephen Crabb to their Gerddi Pentref development in Coity this morning.

Following George Osbourne’s announcement at yesterday’s Budget that the government will be introducing a Help to Buy ISA for first time buyers, Stephen visited the developer to discuss the significant impact this could have for buyers and house builders alike.

More than 45,000 first time buyers in Wales will benefit from the new Help to Buy ISA. For every £200 saved towards a deposit for a home, the UK Government will contribute £50, up to a cap of £3,000.

Whilst at the development, Stephen spoke with Llanmoor Directors Matthew and Tim Grey and took a tour of Llanmoor’s ‘Nash’ home, a popular choice for first time buyers.

Stephen Crabb said: “For too long, too many people have struggled to make their dream of home ownership a reality. That’s why our new Help to Buy ISA is such an important measure that could help 45,000 more people in Wales own home.

“Wales needs to reap the economic benefits of a vibrant house building industry and this new ISA will help achieve that.

“The UK Government is working hard to support house builders. In the rest of the UK we have extended the Help to Buy equity loan scheme until 2020 but the Welsh Government have not made the same commitment. I hope they move quickly to reassure homebuyers and the housing market so that people in Wales can share the benefits enjoyed in the rest of the UK.”

Llanmoor’s Gerddi Pentref development launched last year and once completed will feature 93 properties. Gerddi Pentref offers a large selection of house types and sizes for new home buyers in the area, many of whom could now benefit from the Help to Buy ISA.

Llanmoor Homes is one of Wales’ only remaining privately-owned housebuilders. The company, which will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next year, operates from its headquarters in Talbot Green and has built over 3500 homes. The housebuilder has experienced its most successful sales period for 7 years with the company achieving a £20m annual turnover for 2014/15.

Tim Grey , Sales Director for Llanmoor Homes said: “We were delighted to have welcomed Stephen Crabb to our development this morning. The Help to Buy ISA is a significant announcement and should help many people make those first difficult steps onto the property ladder. Many people find it very difficult to raise a deposit and any scheme which makes this easier and enables more people buy a home is a very positive step in the right direction.

“We were very pleased when the Welsh Government revealed last month that they would be extending the Help to Buy – Wales Shared Equity Scheme and this latest announcement shows that the government is making investment in the housing market a lasting priority.

“It is vitally important that the government continues to promote schemes such as the Help to Buy ISA and Help to Buy Wales in order to ensure that the housing industry continues to grow. The improvement of the housing market is beneficial for everyone – for the buyers, the developers and also for the numerous people whose jobs depend on it.”
