DIY decoration inspiration this Christmas

Christmas is one of the most exciting times of the year, for adults and children alike! It can be difficult to bring everyone together, so one way to engage all members of the household is to make your own decorations!  It’s a fun thing to do and can help save money.

One decoration that is easy to do is pinecone elves. You will need: twine; tiny bells; felt (red and green); glue gun (if possible) or just strong PVA; black paint; pinecones; string; wooden balls – this idea does involve some small parts so would be unsuitable for the youngest members of the family. To construct the elves: every elf you want to make will need a hat, a scarf and some shoes. To make the hat, cut one colour of the felt into a little triangle. For the scarf, a long slim rectangle and little heart shapes for their shoes.

Next step is to glue the ball on top of the pinecone. If this is difficult, break off a little bit off the top of the pinecone to make a flatter surface. Don’t panic if there’s still some glue showing, the scarf will cover it up later. Fold the triangles of fabric in half, glue them together and attach the bell.

Put the hat onto the ball on top of the cone and wrap the scarf around the neck of the pinecone. When the elf has its hat, sandwich two heart pieces together to create the feet. Attach the feet to the bottom of the cone.

Stick a piece of string to the back of the head of the elves and either hang them straight on the tree or make a garland of them! A perfect way to add a personal touch to your Christmas decorations this December!

Hopefully this idea will inspire you and your family to try some DIY decorating this festive season! From everyone at Llanmoor Homes, we wish you a merry Christmas!
